Npk – Early Edition.

Today was another early start, following suit to the previous training session. It might just become thee thing to do each weekend now? Well, here’s hoping… I arrived into town just before half past eleven, only to find a lonely Steff waiting at the meeting spot. I had also arrived at the exact same time as Patryk who was walking down the opposite street, excellent timing! I was surprised to see Luke arriving to the training session, since when?! He said he was already knackered from walking to Plaza, never mind jumping around. All said while he was vaping and then telling us it was far too early to be out training. Good on him for being out though, it had been ages since the last time he was out with the community. Adam arrived a short while later and had started various banter between him and Luke, some light hearted jokes and some more vicious insults. Luke had somehow hurt his hand already after the first kong of the day, then hurt his back when he did a front flip. Talk about an unlucky start to the day…

James and Ben were next to arrive, nearer to twelve mind you. So much for the earlier jam… Adam was quick to state that James had never agreed to be out earlier. It seemed many were still confused about the time change, maybe even annoyed with it being so early and wanted it to remain the same time it always has been. But if we met between 12-1pm, most arrive closer to two and by that time it isn’t long until the sunsets and the darkness creeps in. We should be meeting earlier in the Winter months and later in the Summer ones, making the most of the natural light. We moved down the University library, even though some (Stef and Adam) wanted to stay at Plaza to drill the kong precisions. They did stay there for a short while before joining the rest of us later. It seemed the movements to be practised today would be running precision ones. Luke was busy tricking, while the rest of us gave him abuse for it and Patryk asked why is he being ‘gay’ doing somersaults, as tricking is for gays.

James – Running Precision.

The running precision (seen above) from a small wall to the steps was a movement we all practised. It was good to see James retaining the jump again after a few failed attempts. Patryk threw some dive rolls into the mix, even if they hurt his back afterwards. I kept slipping on the wall with my trainers, which was so annoying this time round. I filmed a few movements for a new RAW video, which sadly didn’t happen after today, or ever again for that matter. Patryk and myself moved over to the blue railing area, speaking about what the younger generation would do nowadays, compared to when we were young and first started. Coming up with possible crazy movements, if only we were that good now. I did a small run with Patryk following behind, involving an underbar. Only for it to jolt my back on the bar as I went through and then have Patryk do the exact same thing as he went through too! I had hurt my ankle a few times today too, while trying his kong, box jump movement off the railings. We ended up being moved off by security and with that we headed up to High Pavement. Surprisingly, it wasn’t wet there, even though it was shaded?!

The walls were wobbly now, at least when you landed on certain ones. The area had been cleaned up too, it looked less like a crack den for once. Later we were being filmed by a random guy that had come out one of the buildings… I think all the banging from a noisy grate as people ran over it hadn’t helped us go unnoticed. I’m not too sure if the filming was meant to deter us from training, as he didn’t say anything, just stood there and filmed. We fluffed up a pile of leaves near the wall, which people did as a catleap, to try and coax James in trying the jump. Even if only to land in the cushioned leaves to get a feel for the distance and jump. Though it might be a long time before he is able to try it for real, with all the variables for the jump. It’s a tough one, as there isn’t any build up per say for it, an all or nothing jump. Continue reading ‘Npk – Early Edition.’

Bulwell Bravado.

So, it was that time again, to venture to another unexplored area (Parkour wise) seeing as it was a Bank Holiday! After a rainy weekend. It seemed that lots were game for being out this Monday due to the predicted good weather, which meant it should be a great day of jumping. James was unsure about being out, due to various body aliments he had. Adam seemed to be less than happy we were going on an adventure without him, due to him seeing his other half. Though in the end he did come out to train instead. Later, a few people had backed out of this day already. Thankfully, in the end, most people did turn up on the day, give or take a couple. I was even ready for action and out early for once, we all met at the Parkour park for 1pm and waited until half past before moving on to other locations.

There was no Patryk today, who had said he would be out for sure. We sadly had no Gio out today either. We made our way via cars into Bulwell Town Centre. Ben had a lift and was on route, being out soon, great news. It was good to have Tom from Derby out again, even if he was yet again out when it was another adventure exploration day coincidently. Once we arrived at the first area beside the subway, many felt a little disappointed from the onset with it. I thought there was more to do there, than there actually was. It was a little damp and wet in places too, but people found things to practice, even if a lot of the precisions were quite big. It was one of those areas you had to work with what was there.

James – Precision.

Will did the big precision downwards, right to left, seen in image above, as well as across too! He has really upped his precision game of late. I could see the jumps but was too scared to even attempt them. I had hoped David would try them to help give me the motivational boost I needed, but he was a no to them all. Yet he was fine doing the jump as a catleap back instead, which was scary and slightly downwards too. James and the others were doing catleaps to an over grip wall and looking at 180 precision back too. I filmed a few movements, I had the intention to film and make a small video of the day, failing that a RAW video of myself. I did do the downwards precision in the end, but it felt like I wouldn’t make it or fall short and shin the wall…

It was one to push for, seeing it there, then that vision fading away. I didn’t want to leave without doing it though. Thankfully when I did go for it, I didn’t fall short and stuck it beautifully. Adam was impressed and didn’t think I had that sort of range with my precisions, nor would I do that jump. The same level precision felt impossible and so I did the catleap David had done instead. Next time I need to look at the running upwards precision which feels there, but is horrible to commit too. Some of the guys went to shops, while I met Ben at Tesco and then we moved over to the other side of the subway. It had an awkward (for many) seen below running precision to try. I say this, as many people didn’t like running along the edge of the wall, much preferring to run along the wood chippings instead. Continue reading ‘Bulwell Bravado.’

Bumps, Bruises & Back Flips.

I had planned to go out early Wednesday with David,  so we could train at Highfields after he missed the previous Saturday jam we had there. I wanted to train there again too, still having movements to conquer. The weather all week had been ever changing day by day, which made it next too impossible to predict if it was worth going out until the day of. I had mentioned to Ben about the session and he seemed up for it, Femi too IF he turned up that is! James was a maybe, what with current work commitments… My next challenge was getting up on time, I was currently going to bed any where from 10pm – 2am and not getting up until gone 11am. A far cry from the 6am work days, the holidays were killing my routine.

I decided on Tuesday evening to go ahead with this training session, there was no predicted rain through the day. Femi was now a no for being out, due to a work interview at 6pm and didn’t see the point in travelling afar. I went to bed early to compensate for all the late nights, but struggled to sleep, it felt too warm. I ended up waking up at 5am, then again at 8am and decided to get up not long after. I abused James via PM, asking if the old man had even woke up yet and will he be joining us today?! Telling him to come out regardless, though I doubted he would be out, with it being a midweek session. Likely he wouldn’t be up until we were already out and jumping. Though I did have a small hope to see him later on, just maybe it would happen. I wasn’t holding my breath though…

David – Catleap.

I got ready for training, feeling tired and now in a rush. I had been too relaxed from being up early and hadn’t gotten ready in due course. The curse of having too much time, thinking I would be fine, then it seemed time had sped up, each time I checked. Tom was out today, a random and unexpected practitioner to add to the cause. The others who were meant to be out were very quiet and not online yet, which usually meant they wouldn’t be out. I arrived in town close to half ten, all accounted for we got the bus to Highfields, which took next to no time at all. It seemed the university was open and that might be a problem if we were jumping around the campus. There were a few people kicking around, early Pokémon hunting it seemed, with one guy dressed as a Pokémon trainer!

It was on to warming up and with that, the bigger jumps. The main catleap in the area (seen above) one I could see, but never seemed to like, it always felt like I might not make it. It was within rage, but I didn’t like the fall down onto the steps if you didn’t commit. David was doing it easily, then Tom did it too! That was it, I had to do it now too. I could now see the jump, but I still felt uneasy about it. As I jumped for it, it was like David and Tom said, closer than you think. Which I equally found out when I stubbed my toe into the wall. Parkour & GO.

People had made it clear, that it was time for more exploration jams within Nottingham. Some were up for doing just that, this weekend. With Highfields being a desired location, seeing as that was a recent place of training. With that, I created an event for the day. I wasn’t that bothered about meeting people in town first, as that would be a long slog for myself. It was quicker to get there of my own accord, I had put step by step instructions on how to get there via all modes of transport. James felt that was a bit unfair to people that were still unsure, or couldn’t understand the instructions of how to get there. I had covered ALL the possible ways to get there and how, it was up to the others attending to make their own way there and meet up with people on the way if needs be. It’s not like they’re all kids any more and needed a chaperone for a trip…

I was unsure how I was getting there myself now. I had hoped to get a lift from Adam, but he was meeting others in town first now and going via tram earlier than the meet up time. I could have gone via bus, but that would take ages, meaning I would have to be going into and out of town. Another route, which was the more direct and easier way there didn’t have a bus from mine. In the end I did manage to get a lift to QMC, only to find the bridge over the motorway was closed! Since when?! I had to walk the long way around and through the university campus, doing a few jumps on my way to kill the time. The others had bumped into Daniel Bunkle and a few others who were out in Nottingham for the ‘Fearless Jam’ organised by Jack Cobb. Which seemed like it was to be a bit of a shambles, organization wise and I’m not too sure how it would go day wise. Annoyingly it was on the same day, we had chosen to venture.

As I arrived at the meet up point, there was no one to be seen. How on earth did this happen? I was a tad later than expected and everyone else should have been there long before I was, due to meeting in town an hour and half before the meet time. The few people who were sat on the grass bank sunning, looked at me oddly while I jumped around on the edge of the tall walls beside the lake, waiting for everyone else to arrive. Derby Tom of all people had arrived first. He always seemed to be out on these adventure days, which I’m sure is only coincidental, but we never seem to see him any other time. The rest of the guys did finally arrive, they were late due to waiting on others in town and had mentioned that Femi wanted them to wait for him too, as he was running late. They obviously didn’t and I don’t blame them, I wouldn’t have either with him ALWAYS being hours later! #blacktime

I was unsure what to practise, instead opting to eat while the others warmed up. Some of the guys at one side were jumping to the steps from a wall, going up a step each time. A tree branch seemed to be hampering them and so I decided to break it down. The tree was dead anyway and it allowed more space to precision to the steps further up. Pete and James said to not destroy the tree and stop, as there was no need and it makes us seem like vandals. I wouldn’t have done it, let alone been able to if the tree was still healthy!
